Reproduction print calico neckerchief filled with fantasy florals, from Ovansjö, Sweden.
Description
FANTASY FROM OVANSJÖ - LADIES
SEK 390 each
From 1820-1830, Ovansjö Gästrikland
Variant of a triangular men's neckerchief that fits women. Square and slightly larger. The size of the garment is 85×85 cm incl. 1 cm seam allowance all around. The fabric is checked against the original and is very close in color except for the red, which is a little lighter than the original.
There is no original - I have started from the triangular and made a variant that fits women. The triangular original is part of a collection of clothing items from Gammelgården in Storviksbacken in Storvik, Ovansjö. The clothing items were found in the bottom of the trunk upstairs in the early 1990s. The textiles are from the entire 19th century. In the house lived the tailor Anders Andersson-Wikblom and his wife Anna Zakrisdotter, called Hat-Anna, who are probably the ones who used the clothes.
Sewing suggestions as described by DigitaltMuseum: Rolled hem, hemmed with red cotton thread. In real life this is rather bleached - it is either unbleached thread that has been discoloured by the fabric or it's dyed thread that's been bleached with time.
Finished measurement: 83×83 cm
The original (triangular) can be found at: Länsmuseet Gävleborg
Identification number: XLM.25025

The designs themselves are 100% done by me personally, in Sweden too of course. For questions regarding the fabric's country of origin and traceability please contact Elobina directly. The fabric in question (product name: Elobina Bomull (P)) has it's own product page with the above information regarding weight, width etc here.
ATTENTION! All square neckerchiefs have some "dead" space next to the collar depending on its size - to make it a little more fun, this area is filled with a random calico print from Ovansjö. The fabric is great for toile or smaller projects. The neckerchief is therefore not cut out, you have to do that yourself as they are sent directly from Elobina. If you order more than one neckerchief/fabric these are printed on the same bolt of fabric and are therefore delivered as a single piece of fabric with some dead space inbetween the products.
